What is Directory Marketing?
Directory marketing is becoming more and more important in today's internet and yet most people don't know it exists, don't understand its importance, or don't know what it is all about.
Before the breakup of AT&T, you had one phone book, which you used to look up information you needed. Now, you have a whole range of phone books to use when looking up the information you need. The internet also has phone books, they are called online directories, which you can use to get the information you need. These directories range from general directories to industry specific directories.
It is important that you are listed in these directories for the following reasons:
- The good directories get strong placement in Google under one and two word search terms. For example, The keyword "real estate" entered into Google returns 7 directories in the top 10 matches.
- A listing in the directory creates a one way link from that directory to your website. This is good from an SEO perspective.
- The good directories receive strong traffic which direct some of that traffic to your website.
Is Directory Marketing the only way to generate traffic to your site? The answer is NO. Is it a form of internet marketing which has multiple positive ramifications on your website? The answer is YES. Directory Marketing is a part of the Search Engine Marketing Process.
Remember Search Engine Marketing is an ongoing process and no one strategy is going to guarantee total success. In addition, multiple additional strategies exist depending on your time, needs and goals.
